Spicy Bean Burgers

Servings 4 burgers


  • 2 tins kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp spicy tomato sauce or salsa
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 60 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp fresh coriander
  • pinch salt
  • pinch black pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • spicy mayo


  • Heat the grill or bbq to high
  • Drain and rinse the kidney beans and roughly mash with a potato masher
  • Add the breadcrumbs, chilli powder, spicy tomato sauce, egg yolk, fresh coriander, salt and pepper and mix well
  • Divide the mixture into 4 evenly sized balls and shape into burgers
  • Place on a non stick baking tray or grill pan and grill for 4-5 minutes on each side until crisp. Or grill straight on your bbq for 3-4 minutes per side
  • Serve on a burger bun with spicy mayo and tomato slices. You can also add pickles, lettuce and any other burger toppings you like
  • If cooking from frozen bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until hot throughout
